Personality Disorders Treatment in Hyderabad

Personality disorders are long-standing patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that differ significantly from cultural expectations, cause distress or impairment, and typically begin by adolescence or early adulthood.

The current diagnostic system (the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR)) groups the 10 personality disorders into three clusters:

Cluster A (Odd or Eccentric)

Paranoid Personality Disorder – Persistent distrust and suspicion of others.

Schizoid Personality Disorder – Detachment from social relationships and limited emotional expression.

Schizotypal Personality Disorder – Social discomfort, unusual beliefs, eccentric behavior, and perceptual distortions.

Cluster B (Dramatic, Emotional, or Erratic)

Antisocial Personality Disorder – Disregard for others' rights, impulsivity, deceitfulness, and lack of remorse.

Borderline Personality Disorder – Instability in relationships, self-image, emotions, and impulsive behaviors.

Histrionic Personality Disorder – Excessive emotionality and attention-seeking.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder – Grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy.

Cluster C (Anxious or Fearful)

Avoidant Personality Disorder – Social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, and hypersensitivity to criticism.

Dependent Personality Disorder – Excessive need to be cared for and difficulty making independent decisions.

Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder – Preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and control. (This is different from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.)

Important notes

Personality disorders exist on a spectrum, and many people may have some personality traits without meeting the criteria for a disorder. A diagnosis is made only when the pattern is persistent, inflexible, causes significant distress or impairment, and cannot be better explained by another mental or medical condition or substance use. Modern diagnostic systems are increasingly moving toward a dimensional approach, recognizing that personality traits vary in severity rather than fitting neatly into categories.
