LGBTQ+ Sexual & Mental Health Care
We deal sexual or mental health conditions associated with LGBTQ+ people, it's important to clarify that being LGBTQ+ is not a disorder or problem. Major medical and psychological organizations no longer classify homosexuality or transgender identity as illnesses.
However, LGBTQ+ people can experience sexual health concerns that are also seen in the general population, as well as some issues related to stigma and discrimination.
Examples include:
- Low sexual desire (low libido)
- Erectile dysfunction
- Difficulty with arousal or orgasm
- Pain during sex
- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), if engaging in unprotected sex
- Sexual compulsivity (compulsive sexual behavior), which can affect people of any sexual orientation
- Gender dysphoria (experienced by some transgender people; it is distress related to a mismatch between gender identity and assigned sex, not the identity itself)
- Anxiety, depression, or stress related to discrimination or lack of acceptance
If, instead, you meant paraphilic disorders (conditions involving atypical sexual interests that cause distress or involve non-consenting individuals), these are separate from LGBTQ+ identities.
